About Us

The Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System (PADLS) unites the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, The Penn State University College of Agricultural Sciences, and The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in a cooperative four-lab system dedicated to the health, safety and welfare of families here and abroad.

PADLS was established by the Pennsylvania Animal Health and Diagnostic Commission in 1991 to provide rapid, accurate diagnostic assistance to veterinarians involved with food and fiber animals, equine animals, aquaculture, and wildlife. PADLS exists for the purpose of protecting animals and humans from health threats by providing accurate diagnoses to assist Pennsylvania's agricultural community in controlling diseases and minimizing economic loss.

PADLS is accredited by the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians.
