* PADLS New Bolton Center traditionally operates on a modified schedule during the University's Holiday Break. Please note the following changes in our operating hours through the end of the year.

• Toxicology: To accommodate HVAC renovations, the Toxicology Laboratory’s last day of testing for the calendar year will be Thursday, December 19, 2024. We will continue to accept submissions through Tuesday, December 24, 2024, however no analyses will be performed. The laboratory will then be closed December 25, 2024 through January 1, 2025. We will begin accepting submissions again on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Please feel free to contact Dr. Murphy with any questions or concerns at murphylp@vet.upenn.edu or 610-925-6217.
• Avian Serology: The Avian Serology Laboratory will be closed on November 28 and 29, 2024 (the last day to submit blood/serum samples at the Manheim Field Office (MFO) is Tuesday, November 26, 2024), and Wednesday, December 25, 2024 through January 1, 2025 (the last day to submit blood/serum samples at the MFO is Monday, December 23, 2024) and will re-open Thursday, January 2, 2025.
• PEQAP: The PEQAP Laboratory will be closed Thursday 11/28 and Friday 11/29.
  • * The New Bolton Center PEQAP Laboratory will be open for sample submission 10 am - 2pm Thursday December 26th. Please call 610-925-6156 when submitting samples that day.
• Clinical Microbiology: The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory will be closed on Thursday 11/28 and operating Friday and Saturday for four hours in support of hospital cases (10 am - 2 pm). No Coggins/EIA testing will be performed.
  • * The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory will be operating Tuesday 12/24, Thursday 12/26, Saturday 12/28 and Monday 12/30 for four hours (10 am - 2 pm) in support of hospital cases. No mail or courier shipments will be received. Samples must be hand delivered to the drop-off area at the Widener Hospital Front Desk. There will be no Coggins/EIA testing performed during the break. The LAST DAY for Coggins submissions before break will be Friday 12/20/24. For assistance, please call Dr. Kelly at 610-636-1718.
• Molecular Biology: The Molecular Laboratory will be closed on November 28 and 29, 2024 and Wednesday, December 25, 2024 through January 1, 2025 and will re-open Thursday, January 2, 2025 with the following exception:
  • * The Mammalian Molecular Diagnostic service will be operating on Friday, December 27th and Monday, December 30th from 10 am-12 pm in support of New Bolton Center hospital cases only and testing milk samples for HPAI. For the same day testing and reporting of results, drop off the samples no later than 10 am on the above dates. No Avian Molecular testing will be performed during the holiday break.
• Avian Pathology: The PADLS New Bolton Center Avian Pathology Laboratory will be closed December 25, 2024 through January 1, 2025. We will begin accepting submissions again on Thursday, January 2, 2025. For time-sensitive Avian Pathology needs, please call 610-444-5800 and ask for Dr. Sherrill Davison or 610-636-1683 (cell).
  • * The last day for 2024 submissions at the Manheim Field Office will be Tuesday, December 24th. Samples submitted after the courier has left for New Bolton Center on that morning will not be delivered. Courier service from the Manheim Field Office will resume on Thursday, January 2, 2025
• Mammalian Pathology: Mammalian Pathology (autopsy and biopsy services) will have limited operations from December 24, 2024, through January 1, 2025. Please call New Bolton Center at 610-444-5800 to speak with the on-call pathologist to make arrangements for any autopsy or rabies submissions, or with any questions regarding urgent biopsy submissions.
